Four Ways to Read Reversals
Blocked · inward · excess · delayed — pick the one that fits
A reversal is not "the card's meaning flipped into something bad". A reversed card usually takes one of four readings: blocked, inward, excess, or delayed. The craft is picking the one that fits the position and the context.
The four readings
Blocked: the energy is stuck — outside resistance or inner hesitation keeps the card's meaning from getting out. Inward: the meaning turns from outer events to inner work. Excess: the energy overshoots — the out-of-control version of the upright trait. Delayed: the direction is right but the time has not come; a beat late, not never.
e.g. Ace of Wands reversed: blocked = the project will not catch fire; inward = the passion has no outlet yet; excess = wild sparks and short-lived enthusiasm; delayed = not the moment — gather kindling first.
How to pick
First the position and the question: reversals in an obstacle slot usually read "blocked"; in an advice slot, "inward work"; in a future slot, often "delayed". Then the card's own temperament — high-motion cards (Knights, Wands) lean blocked/excess when reversed; still cards lean inward.
Many reversals is not doom
When a spread is heavy with reversals, consider first that the whole situation is in an internalising / consolidating phase — do not panic card by card. Only the yes/no spread counts orientations as votes.
