Number 7 · Strategy · persistence and assessment

Strategy · persistence and assessment

One number expressed as four cards across four elements

7 stops fighting head-on and starts thinking: hold the high ground, daydream, take a shortcut, count the harvest — four answers to "how do I continue".

Story line: Once 7 has the strategy clear, 8 throws everything into action.

Seven of Wands

Fire · action and will

Image: Holding the high ground with a staff, one against six

Meaning: Holding your position: the ground is yours but the pressure never stops

one against many, holding your position, fighting on

REVERSED

can't hold the ground, crushed by the pressure, giving up the position

You are losing your footing on the hill: the attackers have not got stronger, your reserves have run out — call for help or pull back deliberately, because grinding on loses worse.

Seven of Cups

Water · emotion and intuition

Image: Seven cups in the clouds, every one tempting

Meaning: Too many options and all of them phantoms: thinking a lot, settling on nothing

too much fantasy, choice paralysis, unrealistic

REVERSED

the fog clears, seeing what is real, finally settling on one

One of the rare good reversals: the mirages fade and practicality returns — you can finally tell which of the seven cups has anything in it.

Seven of Swords

Air · thought and language

Image: Tiptoeing away with five swords, glancing back

Meaning: Not using the front door: scheming, shortcuts, working in the dark

scheming, acting covertly, improper means

REVERSED

the scheme comes out, giving it back and owning up, being found out

What was done quietly comes up into the open: it may be a change of conscience and a confession, or it may be getting caught red-handed — either way, it can no longer stay hidden.

Seven of Pentacles

Earth · matter and reality

Image: Leaning on a hoe, staring at coins on the vine

Meaning: It is planted and the harvest is far off: patient assessment, is it worth it

waiting for the harvest, assessing the investment, patience

REVERSED

sunk cost, watering the wrong row, running out of patience

The waiting has gone on too long: the return has been out of line with the investment for ages and you are still standing there — this reversal is telling you to do the maths and cut the loss.
